Pysical Properties and VLE

In addition to specific hydrate and flow assurance work, our laboratory equipment is well suited to other chemical R&D investigations, such as vapour-liquid equilibria (VLE) and solid-liquid equilibria (SLE) data generation. This data can be utilised indirectly in flow assurance studies (e.g. physical property data for model tuning) or for optimisation of other chemical processes (e.g. MEG reclamation).

Experimental facilities span a very wide range of PT conditions, from low (-80 °C) to high temperatures (400 °C), and from vacuum to ultra high pressures (2 kbar/30,000 psia), offering great versatility.

For physical property and SLE/VLE studies, measurements can include:

  • Pure component properties (freezing points, melting points, vapour pressures)
  • Freezing (ice melting) points of aqueous salt (e.g. formation brines) and organic inhibitor solutions
  • Solid-Liquid Equilibria (SLE) in multicomponent systems (e.g. hydrate/ice formation in liquid hydrate former systems)
  • Vapour-Liquid Equilibria (VLE) for multicomponent systems (e.g. aqueous solutions, organic inhibitors, electrolytes, amines)
  • Isobaric or isothermic conditions
  • Bubble P/T
  • Composition of liquid and vapour phases at equilibrium (up to 400°C)
  • Salt solubility in aqueous and/or organic inhibitor systems (e.g. alcohols, glycols)
